A critical moment for New Paltz: To stop a Republican takeover.

New Paltz has never faced a greater risk of a Republican takeover of the Town Board. And make no mistake—this isn’t happening because the voters chose it. It’s happening because of deliberate deceptions and political maneuvering by current Town Supervisor and her allies.

In June’s Democratic primary, New Paltz voters spoke clearly and decisively: they chose Tim Rogers, the current Village Mayor, as their Democratic candidate for Town Supervisor.

Rogers is the only official Democrat in this race.

But instead of respecting the will of the voters, Amanda Gotto has struck a backroom deal with Republican Chair Butch Dener, securing herself a place on the Republican line. Let’s be clear: without her, the Republicans were unlikely to even field a candidate. By propping up the GOP ticket while insisting she is still a Democrat, she is trying to have it both ways—and in doing so, she risks handing power to the very party pushing MAGA extremism nationwide.

This is not about principles. This is about one politician clinging to power at any cost. And the cost could be very high for everyone in New Paltz.

Why This Election Matters

Tim Rogers is offering a bold, forward-looking vision for New Paltz:

  • Fair and accountable taxes that keep our town affordable for working families.

  • Streamlined, efficient government by reducing the duplication and confusion of having both a Town and Village Board. This consolidation would save money, cut bureaucracy, and ensure our government works better for everyone.

Amanda Gotto, on the other hand, offers no plan. She opposes consolidation but has put forward no alternative ideas to reduce costs or ease the tax burden. Her record is one of rejecting innovation, confusing the public with distractions about “dissolution,” and presiding over rising taxes without solutions.

The Stakes Couldn’t Be Higher

At a time when local government is our first line of defense against Republican Party extremism, we cannot afford to allow deception and backroom deals to hand Republicans control of New Paltz.

This race is not about personalities. It’s about whether New Paltz will remain a progressive, inclusive community and affordable—or whether it will be undermined by those who put personal power above the public good.

Amanda Gotto lost as a Democrat. Now she runs as a Republican (claiming to be a Democrat). Voters must decide: will we allow such deception to succeed?

The Choice is Clear

Only Tim Rogers represents the will of Democratic voters. Only Tim has a vision for affordability, efficiency, and accountable leadership.

This November 4th, the future of New Paltz is on the ballot. It’s up to us to defend it. Tim Rogers is the only official Democrat candidate for the Town Supervisor Position.
