Today, Pride in New Paltz isn’t just a celebration. It’s a response to a full-blown national emergency—and a demand for action…and we are ready.
Our community has always punched above its weight in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. In 2004, New Paltz made headlines when then-Mayor Jason West performed same-sex marriages on the steps of Village Hall, challenging the law in the name of love.

Candidates for the Democratic Primary for New Paltz Supervisor face off at the Candidate Forum at the Denizen Theater. At the heart of the evening was a clear flashpoint: the future of local governance. Should the Town and Village of New Paltz consolidate into a single government? Or remain separate, distinct entities? Since whoever the Democrats select is likely to win, the primaries in 2025 become much more important to voters than normal.
